Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. (Galatians 5:24 NIV)
What does this small piece of scripture mean to you?
Here’s my interpretation:
- When we truly embrace Christ in our lives, we choose to end those evil, earthly desires that required His sacrifice, and walk in Yeshua’s path of greatness. We choose to put our wants of the flesh (not always literally,) BEHIND US and do our best to live in the Holy Spirit, free of the weight of greed, and other human nonsense.
Will you be able to walk in Christ’s path and put aside earthly desires? That is a tough call. I can’t.
No matter how much I want to change, I just keep going back to my old ways.
Do you find that when you decide to change, that change seems to become even further away than you’d thought it could be? Or that you take 1 step forward but 2 steps backward? You are not alone!
Living in the Holy Spirit and embracing the notion of abandoning human desires is so much harder than we could ever have thought. Since Eve and that fruit, we have had a deep-seated need for knowledge, which of course breeds power-hungry, greedy, sinful civilizations.
But remember… we are humans. We can never be like God. So, trying to be perfect for Him is futile. We need to be as good as we can possibly be, but never feel like we’re unsuccessful for not getting to His level. We are not allowed at His level. And He knows that. We often forget it.
Let me know if you’ve taken any steps to walk Yeshua’s path. Have you been making progress?
